Long Range, Vehicle Automatic ID System

TeleTag Key Features

  • Each vehicle to be fuelled is fitted with a passive, long range RFID tag. As the vehicle draws up to the pump, the tag is read, the vehicle ID’d and the pump is turned on.

  • If required, before the pump is turned on, the user can be prompted to enter the vehicles mileage at the fuel island terminal

  • The TeleTag Reader can be augmented by fitting our FuelGuard unit to the vehicle so that the mileage is automatically read, resulting in a completely hands-free fuelling ID system.

  • Alternatively, if the vehicle has a fitted telematics system, then the Jigsaw server can be linked to the telematics server to recover mileage with no additional hardware.

Simple Operation

The TeleTag system was designed specifically for bus refuelling operations where vehicles are fuelled one after the other, and speed and accuracy are important. The vehicle ID system does not interfere with the fuelling process – no mods are required to the nozzle, so normal trigger nozzles and anti-spill nozzles can be equally accommodated. Staff re-education is minimal – they carry on doing what they’ve always done.

Fueller Shift Management

As well as identifying the vehicle, the fueller may also carry a tag so that either at the start of the shift (logged fueller) or with each fuelling operation (unlogged fueller), the fueller ID is read and logged against the fuelling transaction.

System Function Indicator

The status at each step of the vehicle ID operation is indicated on a traffic light type signal unit;

Red light: The vehicle is identified
Yellow light: The fueller is identified
Green light: Both are approved and the pump is turned on.

Fuelling Sequence

  1. The fueller presents their yellow RFID tag to the FMS (fuel management system) to log themselves on, indicated by a yellow light on the User Interface.

    2. The vehicle pulls into the fuelling lane and stops. The UHF tag reader detects the blue vehicle-mounted tag, which is indicated to the driver by a red light on the User interface.

    3. The vehicle ID number is passed to the FMS, which then sends out a radio transmission to the OBD, confirming the vehicle’s presence by returning the current mileage and that it is stationary.

    4. The FMS then validates the vehicle details, checks fuel limits, product restrictions etc. and authorises all required pumps. If all is OK, then the green light on the User Interface indicates that the pump is running and the vehicle is ready to fuel.

    5. On completion, the transaction data is sent to the website, and the system waits for the next vehicle to repeat the operation.

    6. At the end of the shift, the fueller presses the ‘END’ button on the FMS to log off.
