Real Time, Web Based Fuel Management for the Ports and Harbours

Fuel Management for Ports and Harbours – System Features

Liners, Leisure Craft or Working Boats – Fuel Management for Ports and Harbours

From jet skis and small leisure craft to ocean liners, the principle is the same, identify what is being fuelled, control fuel flow and measure what is delivered. The jigsaw system can monitor fuel deliveries from a few to thousands of litres.

The fuel control terminal is usually installed a long way from telephone lines or data services and quite often on a floating pontoon, so using the mobile phone data network removes a huge headache in siting the fuelling point.

The Jigsaw system is MID-approved for the resale of fuel, and the web service allows transactions to be grouped and priced for individual customers, even if they have multiple boats drawn from the same account.

Dock Side Support Equipment

The Jigsaw system can also fuel any dockside support equipment such as cranes, forklifts, reach stackers, straddle carriers etc. If the support equipment isn’t easily movable, or it’s impractical to bring it to a fuelling point, then the Jigsaw system may be built onto a mobile Fuel Bowser. Boats and Dockside equipment can coexist in the same fleet making complete site refuelling control simple and easy to manage.

Fuelling Web Service – Fuel Management for Ports and Harbours

For Fuel Management for Ports and Harbours, the fleet, whether boats or land-based equipment, is fed into and managed on the website. They are setting the acceptable fuel types and the full delivery and prompting for engine hours or mileages as appropriate means that fuelling is carried out efficiently and that all the relevant data is stored against each fuelling.

As each boat or vehicle in the fleet is added, it can be assigned to groups so that reports and invoices may be raised at the end of a period using a percentage on costs or fixed litre pricing.

Details of each fuelling transaction – date and time, vehicle, driver and fuel quantity- are viewable through the website and may be included in user reports. Any reports which need to be generated daily, weekly or monthly can be configured as required and automatically generated and distributed.

Options to consider

  • When setting up groups on the system, set one aside for the various boat owners so that transactions may be listed in groups for fuel billing purposes.

  • If fuel is to be sold in smaller quantities, then it is probable that you will need a MID (Weights and Measures) approved pump and Fuel Management system. The Jigsaw system is fully approved for fuel resale.

  • Tank Gauging is a recommended add-on to the system for the best stock management as it confirms the book stock level and makes quick deliveries, fuel theft, and bad pump calibration obvious and quick to spot.

  • The fuel management system isn’t restricted to managing just fuel; if water or even ice is a delivered service, the system may be used to control and monitor these too.

  • Make sure that emergency fuel flow controls are considered. For example, long hoses dragged across several vessels can lead to fuel spills, and the emergency pump stops, and dry break hose couplings should be used.

  • The Jigsaw FuelWand should be considered when fuelling larger craft. The fueller puts the hose in the tank and then reads a tag fixed to the vessel to start fuel flow. This puts the fueller in control of the hose at all times, reducing the possibility of spills.
